Privacy Policy
私隱政策
Last updated: 6 November 2026
Band Nine Renaissance (“we”, “us”) runs theband9.com, an IELTS Academic practice website. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address, and the details you choose to give when you register (nickname, Chinese name, WhatsApp number, school, programme, DSE English level, target IELTS band, exam date, class).
- Google sign-in: if you choose “Continue with Google”, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture link with us. We do not receive your Google password or any other Google data.
- Membership and payments: your VIP status and dates. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details.
- Your work: writing and speaking you hand in during a classroom session, and teacher comments on it. Classroom recordings are deleted when the teacher closes the session; the text is kept.
- Writing feedback: when you ask for detailed feedback, the question and your paragraph are sent to Anthropic (Claude) to write the feedback. They are not used to identify you.
- In your browser only: your review list, highlights, drafts and settings are saved in your own browser (local storage) and are not sent to us.
Why we use it
- To create and run your account and VIP membership.
- To plan lessons and give feedback on your work (your teacher can see your details and the work you hand in).
- To process payments and keep records of them.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
Supabase (accounts and database, servers in Japan), Cloudflare (website hosting), Stripe (payments), Google (only if you use Google sign-in), Anthropic (writing feedback) and ElevenLabs (examiner voice: only question text is sent). Your data may therefore be stored or processed outside Hong Kong.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data while your account is active and for 12 months after your membership ends, then delete it. Payment records are kept as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal data at any time, and you may withdraw your consent. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian may make these requests for you. Contact us at your teacher.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you on the website.
